Accessible Archives Inc. Announces Raffle Winner At 2010 PLA Conference

Mid-Continent Public Library Receives Subscription to Full Collection of Colonial and Early American Databases

Malvern, PA (June 21, 2010) - Accessible Archives, Inc., a publisher of electronic full-text searchable historical databases, has announced the winner of raffle for the Accessible Archives’ exhibit booth at the PLA Conference, Portland, OR.

The PLA raffle winner was the Mid-Continent Public Library. This library will receive a full one-year subscription to the Accessible Archives family of databases: African American Newspapers: The 19th Century; American County Histories to 1900; The Civil War Collection; Godey’s Lady’s Book; The Liberator; The Pennsylvania Gazette; South Carolina Newspapers; and The Virginia Gazette.

Amy J. Fisher, Reference Resources Manager at the Administrative Headquarters for Mid-Continent Public Library, shared her pleasure at the news: “I am very excited for our library system to have the chance to useAccessible Archives. I think this is an excellent way to try the database and see if this is something that our regular and genealogy patrons would want to see in the future.”

Susan Wray, Blue Springs North Branch Manager of Mid-Continent Public Library, expressed similar views: “I was excited to hear we’d won the subscription to Accessible Archives. It’ll help our patrons conducting genealogical research in our branches whether they can make it to the Midwest Genealogy Center or not. The newspapers will also assist students having to do historical research for class assignments.”

Kevin J. Zeller, Red Bridge Branch Manager of Mid-Continent Public Library, joyfully articulated: “I had a great conference experience at PLA in Portland and the trip was even more rewarding to me and to my library system by winning a subscription to Accessible Archives! I’m excited as I look forward to this coming year to hear how students and researchers benefit from the use of Accessible Archives.”

Tom Nagy, Accessible Archives COO responded: “We really appreciate the enthusiasm these libraries have shown at gaining access to our databases. We will activate their one-year subscriptions on July 1st to coincide with their new fiscal year. An added bonus for these libraries is that they will have access to the new materials we will be adding during the next several months, as well.”
