Data in the Accessible Archives databases is double-keyed by a team of highly skilled professionals familiar with the character and publishing idiosyncrasies of historical documents.
Double-keying results in much higher levels of accuracy than texts that have gone through simple OCR (Optical Character Recognition) scanning. Extensive quality control systems ensure that the converted data has an accuracy level in excess of 98%.
Research at the University of Virginia showed that in a text of approximately 700,000 characters, only around 200 characters were in error after double-keying. (99.999 percent accurate).
This allows our subscribers to focus on the information they discover in their research be replacing the old-fashioned image based archives like the image below with the clear, full-text searchable article that follows.
Rochester Colored Total Abstinence Association
Pledge. – We do solemnly promise, before God and those witnesses, totally to abstain from all intoxicating liquors, as a beverage – the manufacture, directly or indirectly, of the same, or the sale thereof. We also promise to use our best exertions to induce others to adopt this pledge.
Resolved, That intemperance and slavery are the allied foes of the African race.
Resolved, That we will not cease to promote the great cause of temperance, as long as a son or daughter of Africa is in bondage.
Resolved, That temperance will do more to reform the world than any thing else, except religion.
Resolved, That temperance is health, economy, happiness and philosophy.
This Association is in a thriving state, and bids fair to be successful.
