  • Village Record on February 19, 1823 — Accident — Distressing Bereavement.- Was drowned, on Saturday, the 8th inst. near Chestnut street wharf, Philadelphia, PEMBERTON BINNS, the 2d son of Alderman John Binns. – He was skating, when unfortunately he fell into an air hole, and notwithstanding the most anxious and persevering exertions to save him, he was floated under the main body of the ice. He was a lovely, lively most affectionate and most obliging boy. He was 18 years and 6 months old. Few boys were better know, and none could be more beloved.-
  • Village Record on December 17, 1823 — Accident — Was killed by the falling of a bank in the quarry of GEORGE PASSMORE, in Londongrove township, on 6th day the 5th inst. WM. RINGMAN, aged 33 years and 6 months. The deceased death was not by the weight of the dirt, but the weight of a large crowbar, which broke his thigh in two places, and something sharp penetrated his groin that cut the main artery, so that he bled to death in half an hour. He was left a wife and six children to weep for the loss of an affectionate friend. His remains were interred in the burial ground near New London X Roads, on first day the 7th attended by a large assembly of relatives and friends.
