  • Village Record on February 7, 1827—Accident —Accident FRANCIS CASSEDY, was lately killed on the bank of the Schuylkill, Philadelphia, by an unexpected explosion, while blasting frozen clay. – His brother ANDREW, was much injured, and taken to the Hospital.
  • Village Record on August 8, 1827—Accident —Accident Two brothers, JOSHUA DANCE and MILTON DANCE, sons of John Dance, of New London township, were both drowned in Hoopes’Mill Dam, on White Clay creek, on the first inst. The eldest was about 22 and the youngest 16 years old. They went in for the purpose of bathing; one of them was observed struggling; having gone beyond his depth; and the brother, in endeavouring to save him, became his partner in death.- They were respectable in their conduct; and where known, highly esteemed. Thomas Conard, who was in company, came very near losing his life, from the exertions used to save his companions…They were buried in one grave, at West Grove meeting, on the 2d instant. Their funeral was attended by a large concourse of people, distressed friends and weeping relatives. Joshua, was under marriage engagements, to an amiable young woman, whose grief is inexpressible…
